Stop-motion FIlm

Synopsis
-

This is a classroom project done in my stop-motion course. The brief was to make promotional material
for Andhra's famous Kondapalli toys.

The process
-

Kondapalli toys are handcrafted toys made from wood in kondapalli village of Andhra Pradesh. It was quiet challenging to make a stop-motion film with these toys as one of their key characteristics is their rigidity.

The puppets were planned with less motion following the kondapalli style. Puppets were made from a soft wood called Thella Punikki. We followed the traditional carving style of kondapalli craftsmen with their sickle-like tool.

We had three sets—Kondapalli town, a barber shop and a fantasy world. The base structures were made with thermocol sheets and then painted with acrylic colours. We used local advertisement cutouts to achieve a typical Andhra village look.
